Terry-

You replied to my post about the "ticking" in my motor at the pulley area... You also suggested that the timming chaines/guides may be the issue.

Two questions for ya. One what happens to them to make this tick and two will they replace it under ESP? My warranty says timing gears and chains so I am assuming so.

I also noticed while under load (hard acceleration) I get a real loud vibration at that side of the motor. It makes sense, it could be that causing the shaking/vibaration. Could this be true?

What really makes me upset is that they had "THREE" techs on the car and niether one of them thought it to be this issue....They continue to think its an exhaust leak. Now I realize its NOT its a tick not a leak...

Man that burns me up....

Thanks for your reply and insight...

spankey,

I don't mean to give you more to worry about, but I would watch this situation like a hawk. I had problems that began with a faint ticking like you describe.
To make a long story short, I ended up with a blown engine, in spite of regular maintenance, and also checking things daily when the ticking began.

Some 2.5's have problems with wear on the chain guides, this leads to a lot of chain lash on start up as the tensioners (oil fed) take up the slack. In most cases this can be checked by removing the cam covers and looking for witness marks of the chain hitting the head/cover casting when slack. If this is your case the chains etc and the cams have to be changed as the cam gear is part of the cam and cannot be removed from the shafts...good luck...

I had a somewhat similar problem. It ended up being worn out bearings in my Idler pulley.

Take a hose and put one side to your ear and the other side to the different places in your engine, try to narrow down where the sound is coming from. I had mechanics tell me that it was the timing chain slapping. But in the end it only cost $18 and the install was simple.

Although the timing chain made sense, it wasn't the problem.

Hope that helps
