I just bought my mystique used a few weeks ago and it came with something referred to as Presidential Edition trim. Apparently the main south florida mercury distributor performed the modifications before shipping them out to the dealers. I can't get pics up right now, but it basically is a rag top attached to the roof kind of like the rag top on caddilacs, with chrome trim on the wheel wells and some extra badging. I like to call it the Senior Citizen Special. If it were a GS instead of an LS I'd call it the Geriatric Special. At first it was a little strange, and I've considered getting the rag top removed, but it's definitely grown on me since I first got the car. It's got a distinctive look, and I was wondering how rare the trim level is. Anybody else in CEG with a Mystique LS Presidential Edition?

prepare to have people say bad stuff about your car. i think u'r the only member with a rag top, but there are a few other contiques out there with it.

There is a guy on here with a Contour with a rag/style top. It was a blue pre98, actually looked really nice(though i dont like that kind of thing....). Take off the chrome wheel arch things, hell take off all the chrome, and any cheesey(presidential edition) gold or chrome badges, then post some pics!!!

My GF's neighbor has a 1998 STS "Diamond Edition". It actually dosen't look THAT bad, but it would look better if it were all black . It's green with a tan/grey ragtop with gold diamonds embroidered into the C Pillars. Some cars don't look bad like that, some cars are just so freakin ugly it's not even funny (Can you imagine a PT Cruiser, or a G35 like that? They're ugly enough the way it is!)

Put up the pics anyways, never heard of such a thing on the Mystique. The only rare Mystique that any of us have heard of is the Young Anerican edition, with its all white exterior and two-tone interior, its quite a nice car I'd add some white powder coated CSVT/FSVT rims to it, but thats just me.

I'm still looking for Young America interior pieces...doorpanels and center armrest, but not finding it

I'm the other tour on here with a rag top. Once people see it they will not forget it that's for sure! Post pics, I'll get the link to my car up after the niners game.

That is what I am thinking, like the numerous conversion vans that I see around.

I would say it was put on by the dealership. Definately not a Ford option.

You're right about the dealers putting the package on. The dealership where I get service says it was put on by a Lincoln-Mercury Dealership somewhere else in my county, and that as far as South Florida is concerned, it's the only dealership that put this trim level on some of their 2000 Mystiques. It's definitely distinctive, but your right about people saying things. (I'm 19 and, cursed by my bloodline, already starting to lose my hair.) So now I've got another reason for all my buddies to call me "the old man."

One thing I do notice about it though is that when I'm on the highway and there's a heavy crosswind there's a vibration that kicks in around 80 mph, get's real annoying. I've had it checked and the source is definitely the ragtop, and it only happens on windy days.

I have to decide whether or not I really want to keep the the top (I'm definitely gonna rip off the Presidential badges, they're way too tacky, but I kinda like the chrome with the silver frost paint) and bring it up to the dealer to see about getting the vibration fixed or the top ripped off. I'll try to post pics when I'm home from college the next few weeks.
