When you open the trunk on my 96 mystique it always has some water to drop on the contents in the trunk. What should I look at first to try and fix this?

My 95 mystique does the same thing. All I can figure is that the water is getting into the trunk lid from around the license plate light fixture.

Mine does the same not sure what causes it though.  Mine only does it when the car was just washed or when it has rained.

This is a common problem as you already know.
When you open the trunk after a rain or wash, look at the
sockets for the license plate lamps. You will probably see
the water coming from them. You have to remove the bracket,
lens/reflector assembly from the trunk lid and reseal it
with silicon. You could try and replace the gasket, but its
probably going to start leaking again. While you are at it,
remove the taillight lenses and reseal them.
I have seen lots of posts on this over the years and I know
that other places do leak. These are the places that I had
to fix on my 98 Mys.

I thought that was normal? Maybe not what I am thinking of. When I open my lid(with factory spoiler) when it is wet a little water always drips from the lid into the trunk(because it is over the inside of the trunk).

i think they're talking about leaking inside the trunk not into it. leaking through gasket and into trunk even while closed, just opening to see it. though of course water drips in when it's raining and you open the trunk.
