Has anyone had this problem before? I replaced my cabin air filter, you know...the one that you need to open the hood, close the hood, have it propped halfway open, and re-open all the way to get at! Well turns out, the plastic is really brittle. My car has spent minimal hours in the sun just sittn' there so I'm guessing this was cheap plastic from the factory! I was replacing the plastic guards on the outside where the hood meets the windshield (the plastic in between where you can see the wiper motor through the slots) and the damn thing cracked on the passenger side! I couldn't believe it! Now I am ashamed but I have packing tape over the screw holes till I can replace it. Does anyone know of an aftermarket 'cool looking' replacment? Seeing as I have to replace it I was thinking of getting some black plexi moulded and fitted instead. What do you think? or get the factory crap dipped in hardend rubber or something to give it half a chance of surviving my next filter replacement. What a cheap way to fasten it too! Cheap little 'drywall anchor' like things that fit into a little slot and hold. I think the hood is doing most of the holding though. So in closing, if anyone is going to replace their filter, make sure you have a sickly 90 year old or an infant around when you're screwing the plastic covers back on. I used a drill with the clutch set to the weakest torque and CRAAAACCCCKKK! It still went bad! I know I'm getting further and further away from my question but I'm really pissed off about that! So any suggestions would be apreciated muchly (4:30 in morning, please ignore spelling)
Thanks!
