As Pigeon notes, it is no secret. When I got the CEL at 78500, I took it to the local dealership. They told me that they would charge $80 shop time to pull the code, unless the code indicated a warranty repair. In my case it was a covered repair, bad cat bank 1. They didn't have the parts in stock, and then ended up ordering the parts for a Zetec. The second time around they ordered all three cats and the rest of the exhaust from the heads to the resonator! (Including a new flex pipe, bolts, everything.)
Because of the partsd mix-up the work didn't get done until past 82000, but because the car was diagnosed before 80K, the warranty was honored.
Total cost to me: $0.
