Hey guys, Yesterday i walked outside cranked up the ole svt and she was idling at 2k rpm... well evtually it settled down to 1500 and has been constant.. It holds 1500 rpm better than it's stock idle speed which makes me almost rule out vacum leaks ( in my expreience they make the idle un stable).. i've had alot of those in my days with this car. I know the IAC can cause problems so just for kicks i unpluged it's electrical connector and the car droped back to 500 rpm. when searching for a answer i found alot of people commenting on thier iac making the motor run to slow, but mines running to high.. any sugestions?

It is probably the IAC. Read the FAQ on this website.

It could also be the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. If it thinks the engine is still cold, the idle will be forced high.

Problems with the MAF can give a fast, smooth idle. Mine became disconnected one time, and I was idling at 2K, with the rpms occasionally climbing to 3K. Re-connected the MAF, and the rpms dropped to 800.

Kevin,

Do you have a part number on the IAC Valve?

Also...did you reset the computer after installing the IAC Valve?

I'm having a similar situation.....
i put in an optimized tb. it idled sort of high.
it now idles fine when the throttle is left alone.
but when i touch the throttle a bit, it revs up to about 2k rpm and hangs there for a few seconds until going down back to a normal idle (around 800rpm).

i replaced the throttle body gasket (didn't do it when i put the optimized tb in) and did the throttle hang fix. Drives much better as there is no more hang when shifting...but still does the rpm surging.

i'm wondering if the new iac will help me out.
