Okay, this is not a life or death thing, but it's been bugging me ever since I got the car. You know how when you put on your turn signal you can either push/pull halfway and get the blinkers to turn on while your holding the stalk or push/pull all the way and get the blinker to stay on until you turn. Well, my halfway thing won't work on my right blinker. It just makes rapid clicking noises without turning on the light. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Please help...

The little plastic thing inside of it are probably worn out. You probably need a new turn signal switch.

You are not alone, both mine experience this on occassion and of course the outside lights are not working when you hear the double speed clicking. I find a little more pressure on the lever usually makes them work and of course you can always push to the latch position. I just consider it an idiosyncracy of the car but it probably indicates poor or prematurely worn switch contacts.

There is also a known failure mode where with key out you will hear the double speed click, replacement of switch necessary if that ever occurs.

Before posting I looked in the '98 manual to see what Ford called this switch position since I know it as the lane-change feature. Interesting that they don't mention it.

I have the same problem but my socket is melted. I don't think it is an issue with the switch but we'll see. I first have to find a new socket.
