I got word today from FORD that my car has a bad cat. I forgot to ask the woman from service if it was a MAIN cat or a PRE cat.

My question is this... On a 97 V6,Are the precats part of the header? Are the removable? She said she did not need to replace a header just a cat? If they are in fact attatched to the header then I am assuming its the MAIN cat?

Can someone fill me in on this issue of the attachment for precats to the headers?

Thanks alot guys.

There was a recall on the pre cats which is part of the exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifolds including the pre cats are replaced. The main cat is sometimes replaced as well if it has been damaged from the pre cats coming apart.
