From time to time after backing up my 1998 GL, ATX, 4-banger, and putting it into gear, and while first moving forward, it made a groan. The groan sounded like it came from the left side of the dash or firewall. Now when I hear the noise my ABS light either goes off or comes on and remains either off or on. It makes no more noise until I restart the engine, then it goes through the same cycle.
I am assuming that the sound is coming from the ABS brake unit which is located on the firewall on the driver's side of the car. Any ideas what it is and how it can be fixed? I would appreciate your comments.
I have owned this car for a year and a half. The gas milage is great about 28 MPH on the highway. It has 55K miles on it. I have only had to replace the thermostat on it. It is one of the best, solid, cars that I have ever own. (I'm 71 and there is still fun in my driving my â??tour!)
I really enjoy Contour.org and the help which is freely given by its members.
