I took my 99 SVT in last week for two items. The first was a check engine light and the second was a coolant flush.

CE light was oxy sensor ($375) and the coolant $75.

Now the problems and irritations. I asked service writer to check out "moosing" noise if they had a chance to hear it. They also heard front end noise and wanted to check the bearings.

The bearing were bad and long story short another $380.

My biggest irritation was the $35 bill for checking out the moosing. They said they could not duplicate and that they did a review of TSB's and none match. (which is impossible because it happens constantly whenever a cold start, and it sat at dealer overnight.)

At 51K miles I am hit with a $875 invoice and it still mooses big time!!!!!

Is there a TSB for moosing/hooting and are the costs covered by Ford?? or am I on my own, in which case I will just live with it.

Thanks.

Well basicaly there lying or there lazy. Any good tech at a dealer nows the moosing sound from duratechs. Even if they didn't hear it they should of know what to do. To make it easier it is you iac valve (idle air control). Its takes maybe 10 minutes to replace and doesnt cost that much. Try to fix it yourself its easy.

I took my 2k SVT to the dealer and just mentioned the word "Moosing", and the tech ordered a new IAC valve no questions asked under warranty. Being a Ford dealer and all, I was impressed at their response. Normally it is more like, "Hmmm, never heard of that happening before", or "Don't worry, all new cars do that." Guess there really is a god.

I wrote out a description of my symtoms, printed out the FAQ page on this site about moosing, left the car at the dealer's overnight. No problem. They ordered the parts, installed them, and the moose is now gone. Generally speaking, I have found that when taking the car in to the dealer when there are problems under warranty, I do one problem at a time. That forces them to address that one problem.
