have you put your ear right next to them? you may be use to it,,, if they don't tick then you have an abnormal engine.

The ticking is normal both for the valve train and the injectors. Unfortunately, the Zetec engine makes more noise than others. You will notice this especially when you start the car for the first time and especially in the cooler weather. Make sure to keep up with your oil changes too especially during the cooler months and it wouldn't be a bad idea to let the car warm up some before you drive it.

Just be careful with your cars especially now when the months are cooler as your oil in the engine will be thicker and won't flow as good as if it were warmer.

i live in georgia, so car will probably always getting started in over 25 degree F temp. and it's mobil1, so shouldn't have to worry about oil being thick. i let it idle down and wait a few more seconds and go, unless i can't see through the frost of course.

I had the odd bumping sound comming from the passenger side. Pulled the upper timing cover and found my timing belt chewed up on one side and the belt was riding on the edge. Ford found the idler and tensioner to be faulty. the car had uper 20's to lower 30thousand miles on it. So Ford fixed it under warranty cause the pullys were bad.

i took top timing belt cover off today, belt is in perfect condition but it is pretty close to the edge. should i be worried? me drive belt pulleys squeak though. i thought it was the idler pulley, but when i sprayed belt dressing on pulleys the squeal went away when i hit the tensioner. So do I just need to replace the tensioner? Is there a way to tell if the idler pulley is bad? and any specific way to replace the idler pulley? (haynes manual has nothing about it) thanks in advance.

Could any of this make a engine not able to produce a lot of power? My timing belt is 76k miles old and I can slide it along the cam gears with somewhat ease...Is this a bad thing or what?

you can slide your timing belt? definitely replace it, it has little things that should go into the grooves and shouldn't be able to be moved like that, unless it's real lose. i'm sure it can't help that it's loose for making power.

Not over the grooves, but laterally along within the grooves
