I have recently just had my water pump and serpentine belt replaced trying to fix a slight whistling sound I had coming from my engine at about 2000rpm. The belts have been replaced but I still notice the sound. It seems to be coming from the water pump side of the engine. I was wondering if this may be the bearing or the waterpump. I am leaning towards the bearing in idler pulley. Please let me know if this sounds familiar to anyone. Thanks in advance.

I have a high pitch whistle that comes on about 1700 revs til about 2500 revs. It only will occur under load and when the throttle is pretty far open.

Does your sound go away with the throttle postion?

If this is a 2.5L there is not too much on that side of the engine that the belt is driving. It is a simple matter to remove the belt on that side and check the tension pully to see if it makes any noise when you rotate it.
