Hello, I had a CEL come on about a week ago, took it in to the dealer(I have a 98 SVT). Dealer just called to inform me that 2 cats were plugged and my MAF sensor was bad with labor it is going to cost me about $2000.00. Does this seem high, and how hard/expensive is it to replace yourself. Thanks in advance.

Should be under recall. If not, buy MSDS Headers for 600 plus about 200-300 for install. Cheaper and better! Get installed at another shop not the dealer!

So is there a recall for this? I talked to the dealer and he said he even ran my extended warranty to see if this would cover it and it does not cover it. If there is a recall wouldn't he have found it when he did this?

How many miles does your car have, cause Ford has an 80,000 mile emmisions system warranty. Providing you havent done anything to your exhaust, they should cover it under warranty. Peace y'all... Nick

Does the 80,000 mile emissions warranty cover SVT's? Is there anything I can take to the dealer to show him?(a number or anything) Thanks for your help!

i dont see why your cats would be clogged so soon on a 98 unless of course youve been driving the car with a miss fire or somthing else disasterist, which i doubt you did, if your car has just passed emmissions upon inspection i suggest you get a 2nd opinion anyway you can purchase aftermarket universal cats starting at about $65 there are also high flow cats avialble from some highperformance distributors

I have ran the search on this website and found a couple of threads that said that the cat should be under the 8/80,000 warranty. I was wondering if anyone had a link or something I can take to the dealer to show that this should be covered. Thanks in advance

Mr. Darkhorse:
I had a CEL and then cats replaced at about 30000 miles on my 1999 SVT. Don't know why they went bad, but my dealer ordered parts to fix it before even talking to me, and took care of it at no charge. Agree that 80K miles should be the limit of the emissions.

Good luck,

Jay
