Got my car in April or May of 2001!! Its a 98 and I've had numerous alignments made and both tie rods replaced and now my car has the same feeling it had before when my first tie rod needed to be repaired!! Should these things be coming off so quickly or being repaired so quickly??? I've only got 45k on the car!! Should I be bustin in on the dearlership where I got the car and raising Cain on the lemon I got???? I was looking at CarFax and there is 6 reports on my car and I know I haven't had any wrecks!! I need some feed back fellas!!!

You don't actually say what problem the car has. Does it pull to one side or the other? Under braking? Or not? Anyway, you could have the old rear lower suspension arm bushing problem that the Mondeo group mentions on their website. I don't even know if the Contour shares suspension engineering 100% with the Mondeo or not but it's a place to start since replacing tie rods isn't doing it for you. In short, the rear bushing is a split design (the front is solid) and prone to failure rendering alignments unaffective. Check it out. Anyone want to second this diagnosis?

ok. seriously - don't worry too much about the carfax until you know EXACTLY what they six records are. Please remember that carfax keeps track of things like sale date, title transfers, lease trasnfers, etc....

Now the tie rods. I had the similar problem with my SE. They did go out fast - but haven't in about 60K miles so I think I'm golden for a while. I'm not quite sure what parts the tie-rods work with but maybe it's something else that's bad that's causing the tierods to go out prematurely? just something to think about.

Just had to replace one of my tie rods at 55000k. Fortunately was under warranty. Left side seems to be OK so I don't know if it will be a recurring problem.

Tie rod ends are crap on this car. Mine were SHOT at 50k, dangerous to drive on. Replaced with MOOG, greasable with a lifetime warranty. Not so worried about these...

i had an old taurusaurus that had the tie end rods replaced due to wear and the car was so much nicer to drive afterwards (the right front wheel would feel like it was on a spindle or was wobbling around like a bad shoppin cart wheel)...the repairs started to slip after awhile somewhat (the car started to loosen up on the front end) and that when i found out the the inner tie rods (ends?) were bad as well but i never replaced them

could this be the problem with ya contour too???
