every once in a while, with no warning, the anti-theft system will not let the engine crank. light flashes rapidly on dash, tried disconnecting neg. batt. cable, unplugging cables from computer and ATD. all this plus a trip to ford with no luck. at times the engine will crank in a matter of min. sometimes the next day. ford says they cannot disconnect anti-theft, or by-pass. HELP!!!!!

You don't mention year of your car. Are we talking the '98+ OEM PATS key? Metal objects on your key-ring can sometimes lead to problems with it.

p.s. ATD = ??

Do you have the passive alarm system on yours? I have a 95 Mystique LS and it has the passive alarm system. After 30 seconds to one minute it automatically activates the starter disable. You can either turn off the alarm, which on mine is having the key in the ignition in the start position and pushing the red led lighted button under the steering wheel.......or after 30 seconds to one minute I press unlock at which time the car honks telling me it's now disarmed and the car will start...........

If this isn't your problem.....then I don't know what to tell you.

Good Luck...
Ryan

No such thing as Mystique LX, it's either GS or LS, but since no V6 in 98+ GS...yep...we have a winner
