My front rotors are paper - thin , about 1/8 inch on each side . .{ How hard is it to replace them??? } . Any special tools needed ? Tomorrow I am going to the parts store to check on the prices of rotors and pads . . ....

not very difficult at all...i've done several front brake jobs over the yrs and im a mechanical dope...

i swapped my rotors and pads during the spring...u'll need something to remove the clips on the calipers...a screwdriver should do...either a torx socket or hex socket and socket wrench...some cars need torx some hex...there's a big bolt or two (i dont remember now) that i had to use a box end wrench and a hammer to get it lose...some have trouble getting the rotor off as it can become stuck, but i didn't have any problems like that

make sure u have plenty of brake fluid as u'll need to flush the front brakes...some anti-rattle compound for mounting the pads in the calipers...and u'll have to push the piston back into the caliper so that the new pads will clear the rotor

if u dont have one get yourself a haynes manual, it'll help...take your time

others may have additional or better advice...have fun

oh yeh....make sure u break your new rotors in carefully or they'll prolly warp

7mm Allen key socket required to remove front caliper slide pins, C clamp required to move piston back before removing old inner pad and anti-sieze for slide pins.
Rotor removal a potential problem since they might be welded in place (from rust). Re-installing the anti-rattle springs a tricky task that I am in the middle of trying to overcome (inclement weather/frustration delay currently in effect).

Read the FAQ how-to here:

http://www.contour.org/mods/mods.php?s=howto&displayid=35

After flipping the anti-rattle spring off (use screwdriver and hold spring with pliers) I would suggest you try to immediatelly re-install so you are not surpised with the difficulty of this simple task at the end of the job.

p.s. Eyeball measure of rotor thickness, not the most accurate, use of measuring calipers recommended. You don't mention year or mileage of car but original rotor replacement after 60-70k miles probably wise.
