ScottK that doesn't sound all that bad. Thanks for the info! Car is a 98 SVT with 100K on it (as name indicates) so bolts may be stuck in there... Fuel line has to be depressurized and removed?? At least I don't have to pull the motor Thanks again!

Thanks again!Really it's not hard - it's just frustrating due to limited access. I think I was annoyed mostly cause I had it all unbolted ready to come out, and then realized after 15 minutes of twisting and turning that you just can not remove it without disconnecting the fuel and coolant lines - doh....

Had a similar problem and asked if it was the starter or ring gear three places said the starter. Had it replaced, terrible job took the shop (which does starters all the time) 3 hours to get it out, had to take off motor mount. After the installation was finished, turned the key and it went ZING. Techinican said "Gee must be the ring gear" which is 10 hours labour. Only does it occassionally now so new starter may not solve your problem.

Replaced starter today! 3-4 hours of hell I can't recall how many times Ford engineers were cursed... I am thankful that the fuel line didn't have to be disconnected. What an awful place for the starter. Thanks for all the help! -98SVT100

does the flywheel get replaced when you replace the clutch?
my starter was replaced a year ago so that shouldnt be my problem, unless its a lemon.
