I have noticed a lot of the SVT's on here have their door moulding removed. I would like to remove mine because I think it makes the car look much cleaner. What is the proper way to remove it without leaving the tape residue and ruining the paint? Thanks for any info .

Not only have SVT owners removed the door ding guards.

What I did was pull the ding guards by creating a little bit of a handle to pull on with a credit card that I shoved between the molding and the door. What i whould have done is not just pull the ding guards straight off, but use the credit card to remove as much of the adhesive as possible as I pulled them.

I ended up spending about two hours slowly removing the extra adhesive with the credit card and cleaning up the small spots that was left with "Goof Off" followed by a wash and a wax.

Goof Off will not work if a lot of the adhesive is still there...in fact, it can make the adhesive remeains more difficult to remove. By the time I made it around to the passenger side, I had stumbled upon the method of working up a little of the adhesive and pulling on it gently as I worked the credit card back and forth, loosening a little more adhesive at a time.

Experiemnt...it will come to you.

Thanks, I'll try that method. Even if I do happen to mess up, my car needs painted anyways .

Do it! It's the best free mod there is! Well, not on my first car-my 99 Deep Nazy Blue Zetec had racing stipes on the front doors and the WD-40 f'ed up the paint on all four doors. My T-red 00 SE, however, I took a lot more time and left no marks at all! My friend couldn't find where they once were until I told him they come straight off the fender emblems!

i have side racing stripes it takes time to get all the adhesive off, and if your lucky, it'll look right after that.

Bummer.

I could see where the ding guards were when the car was wet until I waxed it up with some Zymol...all is good now. I guess it helps that the car is only 3 years old.
