I need some advice about buying a 1999 Contour SVT from a private party. It has most of the options, including what he says is an ESP Maintenace Package for life that is transferable to me. It is in excellent condition, and he is a non-smoker. The kelly Blue Book says the car is worth 14,890, and that is what he is asking. He told me he still owes about 12 thousand on it. Are these cars really going that high? How low do you think I should ask him to go? Is the maintenance package really transferable, if so how long is life? Any help anyone can give me would be GREAT! thanks in advance.

Where did you find a '99 in Oregon? What color is it? Are there any mods done to it? That price is high.

Never heard of a "for life" ESP - you should probably research that.
KBB is pretty much fantasy in most cases. Personally, I wouldn't pay over $13.5K.

it doesn't have any mods. It is red. And it is in salem, through a private party. The guy selling it seems pretty adamant about the price, I get the feeling he thinks if the kelly blue book has the price that is what it is. On another note the Edmumds TWV for the same car is only 13,564 How can they be 1300 off? That seem like a huge gap.

I bought an ESP when I got my car in January. There ain't no such a thing as a warranty "for life". Another thing, have you checked out the posting for the BRAND NEW 2000 SVT being auctioned on Ebay? I think that's up to around $13,700; seems like the deal of the year.

Read edmunds description of what kelly blue book price really is. It is not selling price it is dealer asking price. Now they do also have a private party price at kbb.com...not sure if that is what you are quoting.
Edmunds says $11,279 for private party...average unadjusted for mileage, condition, equipment.

There's a black one in Spokane Washington. Search autotrader.com. It is black with tan interior. I'm not a fan of the tan interior so I did not look into it.

the seller is on drugs!!! the car has a full nada retail value of 14325 and that is if it has all the options and average miles. he will be given about 9000 by a dealer if he trades it in. the car has a wholesale value of 11075 and that is what you should pay from an individual. heck, you can have my 2000 svt with 17000 miles for 14500. dont pay to much. offer him 11000 and call him in a couple of weeks. i promise you, he will still have it.
