Gutting of the pre-cats went great. The car runs alot better than it ever did before. The wierd thing is that I no longer have A/C. I had it checked out and the same shop said that there was very little freon gas in the system. It worked fine when I took it in for the cat gut and I notice it not working a couple miles after leaving the shop. Do they have to mess with A/C components while gutting the precats. They are claiming no responsibility for the A/C problem. Maybe it was just a coincidence. Thanks, John. 98 Contour V6 ATX

Have them check it & tell you where the leak is coming from-depending on what they find-the fact that they say it is low not empty rules out them putting a hole in a line, condenser or breaking a tube which would probably leak out completely. Have them put dye in it, partial charge & leak test. It would also probably be best to wait around & watch till they can show you the place where it is coming out. Let us know. (another scenario is that was low before taking it in but still cooling but now compounded by an electrical problem to a/c clutch or something that they could have done)

If they disconnected the battery, it takes about a half-hour of driving for the computer to re-learn and the air to run cold.

Why would the computer re-learning affect the A/C system blowing cold air?

Now the computer will relearn idle characterics when the A/C is on, but the A/C will work as normal any time it is turned on. (unless something is wrong with the A/C system of course)

---

It would be hard to prove the shop did anything to the A/C system unless you stick your head in there and happen to see a new A/C line or the fittings on the back of the A/C unit damaged or showing witness marks.

They "should not" have touched any A/C component in the R&R of the manifolds.

I can't say why, but I've experienced it as have many others who view & post on this site. Certainly is the cheapest thing to check.

actually, after resetting the computer in my car i have noticed occasionally that the AC will not blow cold the first drive around. This has happened to me once or twice, but I generally don't use the AC so it may happen every time.

don't drink and drive.

Is your fan and turn signals and crusie working? I disconnected my battery one mod section, and when I reconnected it...a little spark, like usual. Then no AC/cruise/fan. Looked at the fuse box, and I had blown the fuse. I figure from the surge of +power
