Stick with the Ford OEM plugs or the Autolite equivelant. For the wires I would recommend the Ford 9mm racing wires for about $50.

Definitly get Autolite or Motorcraft plugs, and Ford racing wires. Search in the mods section for links to Signature Lincoln Mercury for parts online.

Double platinums (PP) are required in the Duratec because of the waste fire style of ignition system. (Autolite - APP764's or Motorcraft AWSF32PP's) It reverse fires the opposing plug the same time it normally fires the intended plug. This causes the ground electrode to wear extremely rapidly on non double platinum plugs.

Do not use Motorcraft AGSF plugs, they extend 5/8" farther into the cylinder than the AWSF's. With the increased compression of the SVT there is the potential for physical damage, placement of the spark in the wrong part of the combustion chamber, and fouling of the exposed plug threads which could make the plug very hard to remove!

For plug wires check www.batinc.net/contour.htm (Magnecor ) or Bill at the Chicago Connection.

Just put my Ford racing wires in. Car runs awesome. Highly recommend them. Putting in the Autolites this weekend (got to do valve cover gasket, damn leak).

Got mine from BAT. Great guys over there. Did get them in Blue, planning on the Blue CTA CAI.

I just want to warn people here. A number of us have recently put in Autolite or Motorcraft plugs and have developed a misfire.

In tracking down the problem, you never blame the plugs because you just replaced them. But it is the plugs, believe me. I wasted 7 months replacing different parts until I finally put in cheapo Champion copper plus plugs and the problem is solved.

Another member replaced his NGK plugs with Motorcraft plugs on a 98 SVT and got the same misfire as I did. He is back to the NGKs and the misfire is gone.

If you develop a misfire or notice your engine running any hotter than normal, bring the damn plugs back and try NGK or even copper plugs.

How do you develop a misfire with the stock plugs?

Okay. List this "number of us"

I've never seen you post before and never heard others say the OEM plugs have done them wrong.

Also with "copper" plugs be prepared to replace them every couple of months due to the waste-fire style ignition system.

For the record Autolite makes Motorcraft plugs so one equals the other.

Go with either AWSF32PP or APP764 plugs.

Stay far away from any POS Bosch plug.

Your information on the AGSF plugs are wrong. They do have more threads but they do not stick into the cylinder any further than the AWSF plug. If you look at them both closely you will see that from the tip to where the plug actually seats ( the tappered part ) the plugs are exactly the same length. A friend of mine photocopied a few pages out of the Motorcraft spark plug manual and heres what it says in the " second letter prefix coding"
G- 3/4 gasket seat.
G-.708" Taper seat.
W- .708" (.288" short travel)

Both plugs sit in the cylinder at .708". The only difference is that the AWSF plug has threads only part way up the .708" shaft.
You will not do any dammage using either one of these plugs as they sit in the cylinder at exactly the same length. If you put both plugs beside each other it will be clear to you.
