I also attended the SVTOA event held by Sheehy Ford (nice job on the event guys!) Anyway, it was my first time on the track. Had an okay first run for not having a clue (15.93). Basically I launched from idle. So, I decided to try to improve on the next run.
Well, I got to the line and held the revs around 3,500rpm. But when it turned green, I let the clutch out too fast (as least that's what i think i did wrong). Anyway, the car never moved, just made a nice expensive SNAP! GRRRRRIIIIIINNNNNND sound.
The prognosis is a stripped half-shaft, unfortunately on the diff side, so they have pull everything apart to get to it.
So basically exactly what I told my wife would not happen, happened. sigh. Live and learn, live and learn. I'll know better for next time. O wait I forgot. I'm "never doing this again".

Oh, ouch man! Sorry to hear about you needing the secret reason for telling the wife you need a Quaife... Might as well, right? I mean, you wouldn't want this to happen again, would you? ---> Me to girlfriend "Honey... this guy on contour.org broke his halfshaft... I think I need to upgrade mine so that this doesn't happen to me..."

I have done this with some Nitto d/r's and a lot of wheel hop. In my case though I grenaded the tranny and differential along with it. So consider yourself lucky.

Did you have the extended warranty? If so you should be covered as long as you don't tell them how it happened

Also bring the biggest/meanest looking froend you have, as the service manager will likely fight you tooth and nail. Oh yeah, no better time than now to upgrade your clutch and get a quaife.

Yikes! Now I don't feel so bad knowing I'm not the only one. As for the Quaife, I'd love too, but money was tight BEFORE this happened, and now I just kissed next year's tax refund good-bye. Oy! No idea how I'm gonna replace the tires, which I will need before too much longer.
As for the service manager, I had it towed to the dealership that sponsored the event. I'm confident these guys are going to treat me right as I talked with many of them at the event while waiting for the tow truck to show up. They went out of their way to help me out while I was there.
No extended warranty, so I'm definitely not covered. Another lesson learned.
In the meantime, I'm going back to mountain biking. At least when I break something doing that (and I will), it will either be cheap or covered by health insurance.

Do yourself a favor, if your keeping the svt and plan on going to the track alot more get the quaife and upgrade the clutch! while its all out and open let them do it for you. Be prepared to pay atleast a grand just for the labor. I had my clutch disenegrate and thought it was something else so when the dealer did the work i was hoping it was something that was covered little did i know the clutch blew up and i wasn't covered, I don't plan on keeping the SVT that much longer but if i did i would have installed a better clutch and quaife for longer life and better durability. Clock hrs on a clutch is 8.5 hrs according to ford so watch how many hrs they charge you for.

Thats really nothing when you look at my situation. I have had the car not even a month and was out racing and blew my diff and whole tranny, Its still in the shop and almost 2500 dollars later.
