Hi!

I own a 2000 Contour SE and I am getting a check engine light on my control panel. I had my codes run and a PO171 code comes up, which means engine running too lean. What does this mean? If anyone has an answer, please email me at dainbramagedemedic@hotmail.com or dainbramaged5@hotmail.com.

Thanx

lean conditions are usually caused by low fuel pressure, vacuum leak, bad MAF, etc. 4 cylinder engines tend to suck the PCV line apart on the intake manifold (causing a vacuum leak). May also have a bad MAF (more common on V6). Need to check PID data (need a scan tool for that.)

Check for vacuum leaks, clean the maf, clear the code, if it comes back they need to check inputs/outputs-could be the 02 sensor itself.

you are probably also getting 174 codes too, or will soon. I'm battling the same issue on a 97 2.5 v6. swapped all 4 O2 sensors and now getting a 1519 obd-II code which points to a Inlet Manifold Runner Control stuck closed...
