i had a cel that was for the egr valveso i replaced it yesterday. i reset the computer and the code came back . my car still runs poorly. My car wont rev pst 6,000rpm (it will reach 5,000rpm fine then after it, it will very slowly g up to 6,000 and the revswill stall there) I have had this problem for little over a month now and every thing i do doesnt seem to help. i also had 2 other codes that pointed to bad precats ( i remember one code # was 420).

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am sick of it running like this. i also get bad gas milage. Please help.

From your description of the poor high rev performance I would suspect a plugged up cat. The main cat plugs up because the pre-cats crumble and the dust clogs up the main cat. There is a cat recall on older 95-96 tours. If it cant be fixed on waranty or recall, best bet will be to replace main cat with univeral cat ($75) and gut the pre-cats. I'm not sure which EGR code your getting, but you may have blocked passages. These are located in the upper intake just behind the throttle body. Remove the TB (and gasket) and clean out the gunk with TB cleaner and a soft rag and some wood toothpicks.

i have cleaned the egr passage way in the manifold already. i originally thought i had bad cats but exhaust flows out pretty well.

How is the fuel filter? How long as the high rpm loss of torque been a problem?

I may have your answer. After dicking around, or should I say getting dicked around by several ford dealerships <all now paying the wrath of Ford Quality Control...my old man> I hooked up with a ford engineer on loan to roush racing. He took my car into the Livonia location and came up with something that he had never seen before. After replacing the DPMF, both o2 sensors, the egr valve and sensor, the evr valve, and running a complete fuel injection maintence/cleaning, ford as well as my new mechanic still came up with the same codes as you have, same symptoms. Codes pointed to precats also. What the final problem was the coil pack, which looks like an inverted lego. It does some sort of controll of the cylinders and the firing, ya ta da, and is paired in two cylinders, 3 pairs. I had half a pair, one cylinder, not broke? or not functioning properly. I put a new coil pack on, and after 2 months of a shitty running car, I can finally enjoy my 'tour again. I actually forgot how much I love my car. Hope this helps. I will look for the schematics of the job and parts and post them. I have a 95 lx.

Poor mans way of finding a stuffy exhaust system. Hook up a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold. Note reading at idle with a hot engine. Snap throttle wide open for a second and let it shut. Note how long it takes for the vacuum to go back to the original reading. The needle should follow the throttle open/close. If delayed, the exhaust system is restricted. An engine is a big pump and you can't put anything in it if it doesn't clear out the cylinders.

remove the mass airflow sensor from it's housing & carefully, thoroughly spray the hot wires clean with brake & choke cleaner. Let us know.

I had same problem.

replaced EGR....no help
replaced EGR selinoid no help
it ended up being the EGR DPFS
"EGR Differential Pressure Fedback Sensor"
its a rectangular metal box with two hoses hooked to it mounted under the EGR...kind of difficult to get to.
the replacement par was like $50-$60...plastic of course..installed it and haven't had a problem since.

hope this helps
