Lower fuel pump screen, but a search would have found that.

I'd agree.

The crappy design and placement of the fuel pump pickup screens. Mostly notable when under 1/4 tank.

The only fix is pulling them out and doing some self modification.

I have a similar problem, but mine starts in second gear from 3K on up.

I took the rear seat out the other week to look for the access to the fuel pump so I could clean the screen but couldnt find the damb thing. Now I am beginning to regret not buying a service manual right away. I need to take care of this soon, it is driving me nucking futs.

Wait, ALL THE PROBLEMS YOU PEOPLE ARE HAVING IS NOT BECAUSE OF SCREEN PLACEMENT. EVEN THOUGH THE SCREEN IS ROUTED UPWARDS, IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. YOUR PROBLEMS ARE DUE TO CLOGGED SCREENS. The pump is designed to suck from the bottom of the sender unit and that's what it does until you run out of gas. Your problem lies with screen clogging and when you take a corner the fuel level opposes the sending unit and adds to the fuel starvation problem. With a new screen, you will not experience these problems anymore. YOU DON'T NEED TO WASTE YOUR TIME MODDING THIS ONE unless you want to try to save money. By the way, the Carter pump is appr.$160 and the stock is $230-320. It's not possible to buy just the 2 dollar screen YOU HAVE TO BUY THE WHOLE DOD GAMN THING!

But you don't need the screen. Take it out and throw it as far as you can. There is still a sock type filter screen on the pump inside the pump module.

The fuel pump module is too big to remove through the hole under the back seat on cars with the returnless system. Rather than droping the tank, some have made the hole in the floor larger and then found a way to seal it back up when they are done. One person posted a picture of using a frisbee for the new cover. I would prefer fabricating a metal cover from sheet metal.

May all of you find a way to resolve your fuel starvation problem.
