well i am pretty sure i have a bad motor mount. when i start the car and accelerate or decelerate it feels like the whole car is vibrating. its as if the engine is touching hte body. I am pretty sure it is toughing on the drivers side right over the subframe. It looks tlike the tranny is riding right oin the subframe if not only a few fractions of an inch away. is this normal. is there one partiocular mount that is know to go bad all the time? it is a spd just by the way. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks a million

I noticed that my car vibrated mostly when it was idle. I had my mechanic look at it and sure enough, all four motor mounts had to be replaced. Three were bad (one really bad), but I had them all done since it was cheaper labor-wise. Because I had an automatic, I had to get the OEM mounts, which were VERY expensive. If you can, look into getting the SVT mounts, which I believe fit on a standard. BAT sells them. Good luck!

Something like $500 for parts(maybe a little more). If you can, order the parts from Ford Parts Outlet online. Since my car was already in the shop, I didn't have the luxury of waiting for them to come in. It will save you about $75 to order through them. Talk to Gary, he has been really helpful to me.

Tell me about it. I have put out $2000 on my car THIS year alone. I still owe that much. Motor mounts and a recent $800 A/C leak fix were the biggest hits. It cost me $400 JUST for the friggin' redesigned box that came out in '97 that should have been replaced when the car went in under warranty for the same problem.

I just replaced the front and rear mounts in a 95 mtx, and I paid about $60 each from Sentry Ford. I was getting the vibration while idleing, as well as at certain speeds while driving. The mounts solved the problem. My transmission wasn't touching the sub-frame, but it was within about 1/8 inch with the engine off. I suspect that when the engine was running, it may have been actually touching at times. Even after putting in the front and rear mount, I still have less than 1/2 inch of clearance. But, with the new mounts, it is smooth, smooth, smooth.

Sorry for the stupid question, but how many mounts are there exactly ? (4cyl MTX)

1. There's one (the big bracket) next to the timing belt cover
2. There's one down there at front
3. And there's one more down in the rear of the engine bay

Any more ?

I guess when talking about replacing them, you refer to the rear and front ones accessible from below. Right ?

What do you actually replace ? The rubber insert or the whole mount with the bracket ?

Thanks,
Tiv

Does anyone know what mounts (other than Ford) that will work on the Zetec ATX?

Where do you get them?

Going to do the Timing Belt / Water Pump / Tensioner soon. Got to pull one anyway, might as well do the whole set.

There are four ...the ones you talked about, plus one at the drivers end..the one at the driver's end connects the transmission to the fenderwell, kind of the opposite of the one at the timing belt cover. You'll have to remove the air box to get to it.

The front and the rear ones are most easily accessed from underneath the car. When you replace them, you will buy the mount, which includes the steel ring component as well as the rubber interior part. The one on the driver's end at the fenderwell looks somewheat similar to the ones in the front and the rear, while the one at the passenger end is a completely different design.

Hope this helps.
