My car gave me a christmas present. I was driving home from my family when my CEL went on. Took it to the dealer and the found a cracked PCV hose/pipe and a cracked intake gasket. The service guy said the cracked intake gasket created a vacuum leak and that it would take a couple of days to get fixed as they had to take apart the intake. It's getting fixed next week and the service guy told me that it was ok to drive till then. Is this pretty common? Anything I can do to prevent it or is it just a wear and tear issue? I am at 80,500 miles. (Worried about it being a cat as the warranty just expired.)

Not common for the gaskets to fail,if you drive it it will loose power and drive like hell with a major vac leak...

I just have to pay the $50 copay from my extended warranty. When it gets fixed I can find out how much it would have cost. (probably a lot of $) smile

Did you get your tour back yet? Iam curious to see how they treated you with the $50.00 deductible. I am taking my 97 V6 in next week with the same strange vacume or exhaust leak at the front of the car.

I just want to see if they got you for any out of warranty parts at all on top of the $50.00. I to have the $50.00 coverage ESP plan and want to prepare myself for next week?
Could you email me? I can only check the forum a few times a day. I get my email all the time... I know that sounds wacky but its true. I can get my email on my cell phone.... Thanks gain..

Well I got my car back today $50 lighter. Anyway the total cost of replacing the PCV hose, intake gasket and one other one that I can't remember, was about $308. The dealership is pretty good, I got a loaner (brand new taurus) This dealership is really good, they fixed my moosing problem under warranty and have been really good abtou getting me a loaner/rental when the problem takes a couple of days to fix. Hopefully it will stay this way for a while.
