1995 Contour Zetec 2.0
77,000 miles, automatic
First noticed difficult starting...
start then stall, re-start okay...
Now it is having hestitation, then surges...
A week ago thought I could smell exhaust ?
At highway speeds the CEL comes on!
Light does not always stay on ???
I put in a bottle of Gumout Injector cleaner but have not driven much over 50 miles since.
Would a auto parts store like "advance auto"
be able to read codes ?
I'm fearful of the manifold problem mentioned, or the throtle body problem !
Doubt if my dealer would ever admit cat converter problem...
$300 plus seems like a good reason to trade !
Any suggestions, solutions ???? confused

Places like Autozone will pull the CEL codes for free. That's probably the best place to start.

On a 1995, you can actually pull the codes very easily with a multimeter.

Check out this link web page , and it will show you how to hook up the EEC test pins to the battery to get the CEL codes from your car. Then, once you get the codes, you can post them here and someone will be able to tell you what they mean.

To find the EEC Test connector, it is located near the firewall, on the drivers side of the car. It is a little black box labeled EEC Test, or something like that.

I've done this a few times, and it is really easy to get the codes. Let me know if you need any other help.

Woops, '95 - good catch Zack. Sorry I missed that. I've got to start checking the forums when I'm awake!
