So I'm driving to the hardware store yesterday and I slow down from highway speed and the stink of burning oil fills my nose. Get out look under neath the car and oil is dripping quickly from the oil pan and transmission. Pop hood, it stinks, i can see the structural holes on the mtx case are all full of oil. I feel the oil pressure sender on the engine block and it's covered with oil underneat. Rev engine and oil squirts out of the terminal post on the end of the sender.
There you have it, failure of the autometer electric oil pressure sender causes pretty big oil leak, but no major damage because it was caught quick. There is a huge mess to clean up.
I put the plug back in the block and called autometer. The tech says the senders have a higher tendency to fail when mounted dirrectly to the engine versus mounted to the engine via a hose. They are sending one in the mail.
The install was a little over a year old, and I've had no problems up till now. Might be a good idea for you guys with the gauges to inspect the sender with every oil change.
Cheers
