1995 Contour, Engine is a 4, Auto transmission.

I have noticed that I have developed a small leak of transmission fluid- I can see stains. It seems to be from a seal (according to the guy at a quick lube). Fluid was low but not that much.

My tranmission doesn't feel different but car sometimes runs hotter (to the "A" in NORMAL when slowing down from a highway cruise but then comes back down to the "RM" level- don't know if it's related to transmission.)

It has been suggested to me that as I don't intend to keep the car more then a year- or so- it would make sense to simply add MERCON as needed instead of taking it in for an expensive repair.

Does this make sense? Moved recently and don't know who to trust if I take it in. Heard horror stories of transmission "repairs".

What should be a reasonable charge to fix the seals?

I'm not a car enthusiast like many of you but I learn much here.

Appreciate any advise.

It maybe as simple as just the axle seals I think you should put her on the hoist and take another look to be sure as to where it is leaking if only axle seals it is an easy fix and not to expensive but if tranee has to come out to fix a main front seal I think I would keep adding fluid.

Go to Napa auto (or other, I found mine at Napa) and get a bottle of transmission fluid gasket conditioner... add it to the trans fluid, drive it for a day or two and then clean and dry the bottom of the transmission.... check for leaks and keep fingers crossed.
My slow leak from the front seal stopped within hours of adding a bottle of this.
Lemme see if I still have the bottle...
Here it is:
