My '97 contour (5spd, Duratec V6, 105,000 mi. and hopefully, god-willing, still going strong) has a bulb out on the dash.

Anyone out there know how I can get to that little bugger and replace it?

With all the nightmare stories of the dealerships that keep popping up (mine included - I could tell you stories. . .), I would hope that I could do this job myself.

Any suggestins/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

J.

Go to http://www.alldatadiy.com and join up. The manuals are great and will tell you how to do it. There are some guys on this site and E-bay that have CD ROM versions of the repair manuals.

It's like 9 screws, and not that hard. Going to try it when I get the other mods done. I'm looking at the indiglo gauges...

pop out the clock panel (they're a slot along the bottom edge, careful not to damage anything) and there's 2 screws, one on each side in behind. There's 2 screws in the top of this piece securing the trim to the top of the dash, "inside" the recessed area by the instrument cluster, and there's 1 screw behind the rear defrost / traction control switch on the left side of the cluster. (on the 99+, anyway) The switch just pops out. After these screws are removed, the trim just pops right off, and you'll be able to see all the screws holding the instrument cluster in (5 or 6, can't remember.) The cluster just pulls straight out, and the bulbs are the twist-to-lock type, with the connector and bulb being a single unit. There are only 4 or 5 bulbs in total for the speedo, tach, etc, so that's why it's not lit very evenly across the panel. hope this helps. keep in mind I have a 98+, so it might be different on the 97.
