I am getting a distict popping noise from my drivers side front cv "area". When the car raises from a stop, when I take off, it gives several pop sounds similar to a cv pop. My joints make no noise when I turn. I had my wife put the parking brake on with the car in 1st gear, engine on, she released the clutch pedal and it will pop several times. I checked the wheel bearings but they feel pretty good. Any ideas?

If your parking brake test kept the car from moving and it was still popping, that will rule out the bearings. You might try putting your hand on the axle while you do the test to see if you feel the joint shift with the pop. I would also suspect motor mounts and possibly struts/springs. Try opening the hood and doing the parking brake test to see if you see the engine rocking around. You may even see the top of the strut shift. ?? Hopefully this will get you closer to the cause. There were several years of tours that had problems with spring breakage. (Recall etc.)

I guess it helps to list my vechicle, 98 svt contour. I had my head under the car when she was releasing the clutch. I defenitly dont think it was a tranny or motor mount. (btw) I have pretty new mounts with poly inserts.
