I understand everyones concerns and questions. They true way to lose weight is to turn your car into a death trap! IE: faberglass panneling. My car is completly striped with no powersteering, no AC, no interior luxories (no sterieo either)Just one Recaro race seat and 5 point harnest. A small fraction of the weight came from the under carage of removing plactic aand cutting some sheet metal off. but all the car reall is is an engein, frame, and a billit dash with all the nessicary gagues. like i said this is my track car. I can't drive it on the street because techniclly it is not street legal. my dayly driver is a 1999 Black SVT with minimal mods done. That one all the luxuries are staying in and im fixing it up as a show/street racer. Currently my Second car is being fixed. Due to my own stupidity and misshifting from 3rd to second. (yea i know you all don;t have to say it)the car stays wiht my uncle (who is a ford fanatic like the rest of my family) becasue he has his own personal shop at his house. Its only been on a track once. And it was drag. And like you some people at the track say the numbers were wrong and i should ahve a slower time, while others say thats correct ( to tell you the truth Im not sure what to believe). it wasn't all that organized becasue it was an amature drag comp. put on to prevent street racing. so it was done at an abandon air port outside of Pheonix AZ i believe. i hope to get my car on the track ( not drag but touring) in about 6 months becasue i want to rebuild the engine for when i strap on the super charger. (the orginal motor had 75000 miles when i got it. Not its at almost 100,000.) Im in the process of locating my copy of the drag time...as becasue i am at work I can't really look for it now. but i hope to post it later tonight or tomrrow morning.

PS> and to tell you the truth my uncle holds the title on the second car. So technically it is not mine. But i put the wrench time in on it and buy the parts, so i guess im second owner. I'm also the Primary driver, and hes the secondary.

You are crazy to drive these cars with no powersteering. I did it when I took the belt off to see if the belt was causing some problem, and it was impossible to steer the car without putting the whole body into it.

Well, if he had fiberglass/carbon fiber body panels...and maybe some of that NASA aerogel I think it could happen.

But I don't know. Shaving 900 lbs is tricky.

My only question is why? Why take a fine handling front wheel drive car and try to make it a 1/4 mile burner? Look at what this guy has done to his car now. It's not even streetable anymore and any fool in a F-Body or Stang can attain those times.....with AC, Powersteering, stereo and well.....on the street!

I applaud your dedication to getting the best 1/4 mile times....but that is no longer a Contour IMHO.
