Last night I was shifting into 2nd gear and as I was shifting to 3rd I let the clutch go and all it did was rev up. I coasted onto the side of the road and started my test. It will go into every gear but not go anywhere, in 1,2,3 it makes no noise, but in 4,5,reverse it makes a clanking noise from underneath the car. Has anyone else had any problems like this??

I was thinking maybe the shift linkage inside the transmission??

Maybe the rod that goes through the transmission??

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

do not try to drive the car. There is a chance a bolt has broken off of th shift linkage. The good news, it's a simple fix. The bad news, sometimes they fall into the tranny and get pushed through the side of the case. Get it flatbedded to the nearest dealer and get it looked at.

Would a shop still have to drop the tranny to fix the bolt??

I am glad you know what your talking about, thanks for the info.

What would happen if the bolt has fallen in??

Did you snap a cable? I did that not long ago. Replaced both at a hundred bucks a pop. Seem to fix the problem. Dunno though, maybe yours is an internal trans problem.
