Does anyone know how much HP the ATX for the contour can handle. Tossing around the idea of turbo charging mine. What other mods would be necessary, engine, trans, etc.

-98 SE, Zetec, ATX, 52,000 mi.

I remember reading that around 200HP you start having trouble with the transmission holding that much power. Someone back me up?

200 lb/ft of torque is the threshold limit of the input shaft.

Yes a turbo will exceed that mark. I am anxiously waiting to see what Chris has planned for his car to rectify that situation!
Shift packs, trans coolers, chips will not help in this instance. They are "required" additions though by all means!

This also does not take into account the limit of the stock torque converter. Anyone making a big increase in power can not use the stock converter safely or it will balloon and fail.

We'll see what happens. If I tank my tranny during R&D then we'll all know.
