I've noticed lately that my Contour is running a little rougher than it has in the past and is a little noisier with less power, especially when accelerating. It also takes longer to warm up in colder weather than before. I've had the exhaust system checked and everything is fine there.
Next weekend I'm going to change out the air filter element, PCV valve, fuel filter, and thermostat which are all overdue for replacement. I replaced the plugs with Motorcraft Platinum OEM's at 60,000 miles and I'm going to install new wires soon. I'm at 92,000 miles now. Does anyone have any other suggestions I might try?

Start with those. If you are due for a tune up, it may help. Before doing any further, start with maintenance items first.

clean or have cleaned the throttle body and IAC, clean the IAC valve of replace it, i don't know which is common practice. Also, maybe an EGR service, but I have yet to get that, I can say the tb cleaning and iac cleaning helps.

get autolite double plats and ford racing 9mm wires, get some goood oil, synthetic is best though maybe not for high mile switch. put some gumout regane, stp, redline or something in the gas tank to clean injectors.

Use some RxP, found at any Autozone. It will help a little.

Your list is fine, definitely should help. Don't forget to reset the ECU after doing all these. You might want to clean the MAF as well (5 minute job, it improves rough idle). If you do all these yourself, please tell me how difficult it was to replace the PCV valve - I'm about to do it, and I know it's not an easy story on Zetecs. Thanks, Tiv

Between the stuff you have listed, and resetting the ECU, This should clean things up a bit.
