Guys,

I am looking for an upgrade to my KVR Brake Pads that I Currently have on the front rotors. I need a pad that I can use every day, but that will give me better stopping power and wont fade when I am on the track. The two makes that I have been told to look for (since that is what all of my track buddies use on their cars) are Hawk and Porterfield...but neither of them offer pads for the Cougar.

I have the Mintex A/F pads on the rear of the car... How are the Mintex 1144 pads for the front?

i have mintex pads on the front, donno which # off hand but i drove all 20 minutes at sz02 both times on the track without any fade at all, they arent clean pads though... they throw dust everywhere.

Hmmm...I have become spoiled with the KVR pads in the front and the Mintex AFs in the rear as far as neither of them throwing off much brake dust....

If better brake pads throw off some dust it will be worth it for me....

What do some of you other guys use?

There is little hope of achieving true, better performance in braking without some trade offs. It's about expending energy and pads are the first line of defense. Find me a pad that will be up in the .55 Cf, last forever, not be noisy, and be dust free. We'll all get rich.

i can wipe the dust off of my wheels and paint with a car wash, i cant wash away a wreck... s'all i'm sayin

So,

Besides Mintex...what are some other brands of pads that will work on our cars, and work well on the track. Im not looking for full race pads either....but something that is better than the KVR pads I have on there now.

I've run several track events, with the following results:

EBC Greenstuffs: Good initial bite, moderate dust, about 2 on-track hours and they're gone.
KVR carbon fiber: Works better hot, minimal fade, 3 track hours, six months of road use after and still going.
Performance friction: Chunked after 2 track hours , cracking and brittle. Gave great results for first 30min session.

Keep in mind that these events are run in the Southeast region, with warmer temps. I'm also running Brake ducts from the lower grille under the a-arms right to the backs of the rotor/calipers.
I've talked with EBC, and Redstuffs would do better, but they aren't made for the E1 CSVT. Hawk will put their compounds on supplied backing plates, but at about $300+.

I'm running the Mintex 1144's Nov 16-17 at Road Atlanta with my new EBC TurboGroove rotors, I'll let you know how they do.

I've got Mintex 1144 front, and A/F rear. The front pads are fantastic. I've done 5 track days for 400+ miles with no fade, and modest brake dust. They are fine for daily and wet driving too... no heat up required. Just use some disk-quiet or they'll squeal and frighten old ladies when you come up behind them.

I too am quite interested in how the 1144's do at Road Atlanta. I've run stock and KVR's in my last 3 track sessions - very disappointed in the KVR's, so much so that I swapped them out for the stocks at my last weekend. Porterfield and Carbotech also make race pads that are generally well respected - one was reasonable $$ (in the range of 100) and other was pricy (in the range of 200) but I can't recall which was which. Also, one of them doesn't list the Contour as an application though if you contact them directly they do (just haven't put them on their web site) - again I can't recall which one of the two that was.
