The other day I was out adjusting my centering spring (was clicking when I shifted to the right), when it broke (due to brittleness). The shifting is OK, but kinda sloppy. Any of you guys intentionally take yours out? I know some folks who didn't like how stiff the new shift was with the B&M, and left the spring off. If so, would you be willing to part with it? Thanks!

Most folks who remove it prefer it that way. Maybe you should try it out a little longer first and then decide. I kept mine in and it is pretty notchy.

I left the spring assembly installed (but disconnected) to take up the end gap in the pin. (no sloppy play)

Did you actually break the plastic part?
...or just the metal spring???

I actually broke the metal spring (my retaining piece is a metal c-clip). I've tried driving the car around without it, I just don't really like the mooshy feel. I also might be trading in on a new Cougar in a few months, so I'd like to have all the parts back in working order.
