The CSVT has been experiencing poor gas mileage over the last few weeks. During the last few days, I've been noticing a rough or lopey idle...almost like the car is skipping. Don't really notice any other signs of skipping (hesitation, etc) but today I got a solid CEL. Hope to use BurgmanSVT's OBD software to diagnose and clear the problem, but was wondering if you guys had a couple suggestions that may narrow down my search for the problem.

Thanks.

Sounds like a bad MAF too (maybe disconnected or broken), or plugs or wires etc.

Without pulling the codes you could be chasing your tail.

Get a scanner on it and save yourself some time and money.

Nowadays most auto stores will loan you out an OBD-2 scanner for free (just have to put a deposit on it with your CC so you don't steal it or F it up).

I had the same problem with poor gas mileage and a CEL. I ran the OBD-2 software and I had a P1518 code. That is the IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) module cable had broken so the secondary ports were stuck open. Unfortunately, the part from Ford was about $150. I would check if Motorcraft makes the part, then you could get it from NAPA or similar parts store. Hope this helps.

Secondaries are spring loaded to close automatically! Can't get stuck open because the cable breaks. confused

$150 is way too much from the dealer. Shop around or just call Bill Jenkins. Should be around $100.

Motorcraft = Ford! No aftermarket IMRC...

Had similar problem with no idle and stalling that would go away when warmed up. The other day I discovered the main air hose going into the throttle body had a very loose connection. After mucho tightening of the clamp, the car has been getting progressively better as the computer seems to be adjusting to the new airflow or better vacuum or something, I don't know diddly, but so far so good. My theory is that before, as the metal got hotter as the engine warmed up, it expanded to seal the hose more tightly.
