well, i cannot afford a new transmission, Ford is going to take my car as is, and give me what they can for it, probably like 1000 dollars  the car has a different exhaust, 4cyl tho, semi bald front tires interior has a stain where baby threw up on it, cant get it off, and busted/toasted transmission, and 61+k miles on it, the lady was all upset "your car looks like you joyrided in it, there are rocks in it, and dirt, and you have a cheeseburger and fries in the car!" ok #1, i had to walk home, i wasnt expecting to have it away that fast, so i couldnt wash it, obviously, nor clean it out, so ford is going to now try and get me a car , with the $$ that mine is worth, i want this 1986 Mustang GT , i owned one when i was 16. the car is $2,995 with 71K on it, looks good, i doubt ford is going to give me that one.. oh well... i will always love the contour, and i'm going to miss it... i jsut hope ford wont give me a Fiesta or a Tempo lol! :p

Mine is still acting up to, so how did you get ford to take it back? I would just like to give it to them and not even get any money back from it and just be gone with it. I want a MTX anyway.

Hey remy if it is worth anything get rid of the atx as soon as possible, I spent over $400 on diagnostics and went to 3 different mechanics and dealers and no one could figure what was wrong with the tranny. besides the manuals are much more fun and they go like stink!!!!!!
Currently: 2002 ztw focus wagon, black, manual. Yippee it sucks!!

I have a 96 contour GL and i was talking with a guy at my local dealer and he told me the eng and tran is way under powered for the wight of the car. how much of this is true?????? you got me if anyone knows is if it is or not i would like to know.

it's BS. there is enough power even in I4 and enough ATX to handle it. your dealer is full of crap. that's just the way it is, sorry

Hey that's cool i haven't had a prob yet knock on wood but i go by the dealers spec's changing the tran fluids and coolant oil changes ect...... i guess they wanted me to buy a new car lol

Well he was not being totally untruthful with you, the Zetecs are underpoered compared to SVT or regular 2.5L Duratec! Well I still owe $12000 on my Tour and I think the trade in value is only around $8000 now, besides all the car lots around here sell 2000 Contours and Mystiques for $7995 all day long so I have some pretty stiff competition if I try to sell it outright too.

Yeah, uh, I drive a Zetec ATX. And I can vouch that no, it is NOT underpowered. It is faster than our 67 Mustang 289 was. It's not a FAST car, but it's certainly got enough to get the job done. Yeah, it's a 4 cyl. But, if you know how to get the most out of a four banger, you won't have a problem.
No, we are NOT underpowered. In fact, I can beat those second generation eclipses all day long.
