Ok...My contour says Duratec 24 valve v-6...i havent seen another contour like it...I have seen the 16 valve's the GL's and all them but have yet to see another 24 valve...Can somone tell me alittle about the 24 Valve contour...Any help would be apriciated(sp?)....Thanks..

Thats pretty much it....24 valve dohc V6.

Are all contours 24 valve?????

all V6 contours are 24 valve

Ok basically two engines were offered with the Contour's. 1. 16V Zetec 4C
2. 24V Duratec 6C

The engine you got depended on the model trim of the Contour.

ummm GLs are base and come with duratec or zetec

The GL had more than one trim level. The most basic GL was the 4cyl with manual trans. Next trim level was with auto package, then V6 manual w/rear disc's (pre-98), and so on up to GL V6 Auto. Then next was the LX with some other little goodies.

If you mean the badges on the fenders, mine came with "24V" on them. I've seen another black/grey tour around here with "16V" on it. From what I gather it's a non-SE model with Sport options or some such mix and match. Most Sport SE's with V6 have "SE" on the ovals, Sport on the left side of the boot, and "24V" on there as well (sides vary).

My "24V" badge now lives in the center of an ST200 grille.

Yes, but only 1 other, the Sport Package. The '95-early '98 LX was NOT a "GL trim level", it was a distinct model. For 98.5 it took the GL's place as the entry level Tour.


Here's the best way to tell models, VIN's.
1995-1998 VIN model codes:
P65 = GL or base Contour (1998 base cars had 16V or 24v on sides)
P66 = LX "luxury"
P67 = "sporty" SE's (some say Real SE)

For later years 1998.5-'00
P65 = LX
P66 = SE
P68 = all SVT's

Also:
The 170 HP Duratec V6 was always a free standing option on any Contour for all years.
