I have a 98 EO SVT and need to know how to get the slop out of the shifter cables. I know there are 2 orange button type connectors on the shift linkage at the tranny end. Has anyone been able to tighten up the cables.

If frequently having to fight with the shifter to get into 1st and Rev is the type of "slop" you're talking about, I'm in need of a solution for my 98 EO, too. Been a problem since I bought the car @17K and now seems to be slowly getting worse.
I am somewhat having the same problem. Only mine isn't limited to first gear. I have noticed that it quickly got worse with the weather...maybe that has something to do with it?

Weather shouldn't affect your transmission. Maybe temperature? Has it gotten COLDER at night recently?
