well i have been noticing when i am giving the car full throttle 1 to second gear is good and fast. But when i go into third gear i hear a little screch like the belts or something what is that is anyone experianceing that. Other then that. while in third gear reaching 70-74 miles per hour i notice a power lose and i dont feel it change into forth gear it looks like it goes into forth gear real fast doesnt give 3rd gear a chance to rev all the way i dont feel a jult or anything i just notice the rpms drop back a little bit like it was in 3000 rpm it would go back to 2800 something like that. so my conclusion is that it went into forth gear. no once it revs up. to where 4th is suppsoed to be the car runs great again fast. it tops out at 110. i wanna change that as well is there a mod for that also. but can some please help me with the 2 to third problem. Thank you

I think the tranny is slipping when it goes in to 3rd. If I am not misstaken, it can't go in to 4th at full throttle.

it goes into 3 and makes that sound like the belts are squliching but when having the throttle all the way open on 3rd gear i see it shifting into 4th automaticaly like real fast doesnt give 3 gear a chance to rev up. i think it is already in forth gear becuase i feel it like holding back till i reach 82 or 83 mph then i top out at 110mph on forth gear

The torque converter locks up in third gear and in fourth. You are probably feeling the TC locking. That will drop you a couple of 100 RPM's.

On the other comment, I have been Full Throttle in 4th. Just before you hit the speed limiter. Without the limiter, I don't think fourth will be any problem at all...

Thank you for the tip how much would it cost to get fixed and where ???? is it complicated do u think it might be expencive......

I don't think you are in fourth, you shift into third, then the torque converter locks ups (it's supposed to). With the torque converter locked, it is just like a manual transmission in gear. You can hit the speed limiter in third. When you hit the limiter, and you back off the gas, do you then go into fourth? If you turn OD off (The little button on the side of the shifter, light in dash "O/D off" Lights up) you will not go into fourth (OD) and remain in third. You can tell by RPM's in this condition if you are in third when you try your test in drive with OD light off and see if the RPM's are the same.

At 80MPH in third, I am at about 4200 RPM. At 110 , you should be up in the 6000's (in third).

If this is the case, there is nothing wrong.

The squealing is probably the serpentine belt slipping when the RPM's change on the shift.

Just in case I missed something, have you checked the color and smell and level of the transmission fluid?

damn i feel stupid i am gonna try it when i get out a work. thought i have 5 gears 1 2 3 4 5. i am gonna try the test thought if that is the case dont u feel a power loss after the torque lock...... what can i do to over come that.... and yeah this weekend i am gonna change the tranny oil and put the ford lubricant stuff.... i only got 32k on the car so u tell me what i should do. the only mod i got on it is a air intake...... thats about it. u tell me what i can do to juice this baby up thanks i wanna get the chip so i can go past the limeteri hate it

We have four gears, 1,2,3,4, but 3 and 4 also have the torque converter lock-up, so it is almost like 6 gears.

I checked today, I get up to about 78 MPH on the 2-3 shift and drop from 6400 RPM to about 4300 RPM (Hard to watch when driving fast). If you are dropping down to 2700 when you are going 2-3, you can't be in third. You may have a tranny problem. Let us know what happens with the o/d off light on.

The Ford Friction Modifier additive is only for the manual trannies (They use Auto Tranny Fluid though). Don't use it in the ATX....
