Just picked up my '95 contour with 98,910 miles on it (and a currently broken spedometer cable) A month or so ago I took the car to the dealer to locate a short that was affecting the ventilation fan motor and turn signals. After advice from this forum I approached the dealer about doing a warranty under hood wire harness replacement. The dealer was not happy about doing this jub - but - they did get it done. Claim they had to pull the motor to complete - took them four days. They also replaced the engine cooling fan, motor and relay at the same time (no charge) as well as transmisison fluid, A/C charge, coolant.

I have not driven the vehicle much since picking it up - but my fingers are crossed that I wont have to visit the shop again for a while.

They were not happy because the harness price is 1,100.00 and yes they have to pull the motor to do it. A lot of work at warrenty price. I had a problem with the ABS and traction control. I have not had a problem since they replaced the harness at least with that stuff.

if it took 4 days that would definetly make them mad, since coporate Ford won't pay for 4 days of work to replace the wire harness.

With a broken speedo cable so that proper milage could not be determined, they were under no obligation to perform that repair. Count your blessings.

The main reason that many dealers are not happy about doing that repair is that (thanks to Jac Nassar) there is no way possible for the job to be done in the time that Ford pays. Ford should be ashamed of themselves.
