Go to favorite gas station, he sez I can't do these.
Go to a big privately owned Goodyear (Richlonns??), He sez, we tried but I am NOT going to damage you tires forcing the sidewall out with airpressure, he didn't charge me anything(one tiny area of the sidewall is "caught" under and will no go into the rim "lip")
So he says go to the BFG distributer????JEEZ....
Anyon else have a hard time putting BFG KDW's 225's on the stock 1999 SVT rims????
Good thing I have two spare wheels to play with!
And what IS the max air pressure I can put into these puppies without damaging the tires?? When I am trying to pop into place that one stupid stuck spot??

hmmmmmmm......... I've never had a problem!

225/50ZR/16 KDWS

I don't know if the S makes a difference or not but they've been on the car for 10k miles and plenty of tread left.

Max I ever filled them is 40 psi but usually @ 35psi or whatever Big O Tire told me to put.

Ahhhh!!! I thought I had it all figured out...Go with the 225's... but now this guy. Anyone else have any problems getting 225's to fit either in the rim or on the car?

The tires wiil "prolly go on if I can get someone to fiddle with the tires and rejuice the tire lip. ( I wonder if the second guy just didn't want to mess with the tires. He sells mostly Goodyear, He looked at me funny when I said they are Y rated for 186 MPH)
They LOOK cool. Big FAT tread. MMmmmm... STIFF SIDEWALLS
And the KDWS are altogether different tires than the KDW.
Different tread design, different rubber compound, maybe the same tire carcass construction though?
I have to wait 'till Tuesday, when I have the day off, to find out if the tires will finally give in and line up right on the rims.

Alot of brands suffer from this, stuck sidewalls that don't fully seat.

My guess is that you are taking your wheels/tires to ignorant people who don't work with low profile tires too much.

The simplest way to get this solved is to apply bead sealer on the lip of the tire (not the glue kind but the "grease" kind) This will make the tire slippery at the lip and it will seat. Just make sure you never put more than 50PSI on the tires just to seat them, the risk of a belt being moved out of place could cause premature tire wear, as well as bubbles on the sidewall and bumpy, uneven wear.

Yep, I'd look for a a shop that does a lot of low profile tires. I've had 225/50R16 tires on a 6" wide rim so the SVT 6.5" rim should be no problem.

Good luck.

You might try looking at the Tire Rack site for recommended installers in your area. A recommended installer installed Yokohama 225/50/16 without any problems.
