I don't know a lot about tranny's, but I know mines about shot. I love driving MTX, and since I may be having work done soon anyways, it might be a good time to switch. Do you guys think this will be very costly, or even possible? Is there an "autostick" available? Any info would be GREATLY appreciated.

There are many posts here about this subject.
There are MANY things you have to consider when changing from ATX to MTX on a front wheel drive car.

It is easier and cheaper if you search for a good deal on a used MTX Contique.
Tthen you won't hae to worry about 'missing things' to make it work.

if i were you, i would do this, which would probably be cheaper: get a level ten kit, and have someone else install it; cheaper than switching to mtx (unless you sell car and buy a MTX), it will shift better than a MTX and have less drivetrain loss.

I've read a lot of posts about the ATX/MTX switch, and I've usually argued against the switch myself. If I was going to do it, I would try to buy a wrecked or otherwise dead MTX car, so that I would have all of the miscellaneous but absolutely essential parts.

ive been on the level ten website so many times, and i have yet to find anything on the cd4e tranny. if you know wehre it is please post teh link. im interested in their shift kit. i know transgo has a kit but its not really a shift kit, its a durability kit. and it only cost 30 bucks, as i emailed transgo and ask for a price quote.

Lube & Calibration Upgrade
Corrects/Reduces/Prevents:
Drum breakage; Runaway line pressure; gasket blowout, hard shifts; torque

lube flow even in worn valve bodies.
It comes with very
detailed instructions, however I would recommend professional installation
if you are not familiar with transmission repair.

A Level 10 CD4E tranny, R&R was quoted for me @ $3,000.
I believe you get a 90 day warranty with it also.

IIRC they sell a Level 10 kit, and the sell a complete Level 10 tranny and/or Torque Converter, and they can do the swap for you.

Sinde you are in Binghampton, it is only a few hours for you to drive to where they are located in New Jersey.

Here is the ATX Page for ordering the tranny.
It falls under MAZDA since the CD4E is a MAZDA transmission.

Here is the rebuild kit. Note the additional parts you will need.

someone has done a level ten kit on a contour (don't know who) trans-go also has a shift kit for $120 that someone on here got that makes shifts faster and, to me, smoother seeming. bolts on to the top of tranny.

What is this ???
The only thing on TOP of the tranny is the Shift Selector Sensor.
Maybe you are thinking of this...

There isn't a picture, but it connects to the Transmission Harness.

This is all wrong.
You will not have less drivetrain loss (it will be more or best case senerio equal), it will not shift better than MTX. It will shift more consistantly but a good shifter with a stock MTX will have the edge.
It will still weigh about 100 lbs more
It will still have less gears and a taller final drive ratio
It will never have a limited slip option (which can be installed in MTX for far less than LVL 10 service).
For these reasons, you will lose to an equally equipped MTX car
It is not cheaper, its 2-3K!!

Look at the dyno numbers...it is giving up about 20 FWHP more or 14% more power loss c/w MTX!!! Spend $3000 to at best to get the 20 HP back and still weigh 100 lbs more!

The guy said he likes to shift...why push him toward Level 10???
