I just got my 99 Contour SE a couple days ago. I installed the TH mod today and got rid of that problem. My questions are, will my car pass the emissions inspection with the TH mod installed or will I have to take it out each time? Also, is it bad to take the engine over a certain rpm now. I just love the rush I feel after the engine hits 4,500 rpm and I don't want to miss that. Thanks

I don't know about the emissions test, but I have been well above 4500 many a times since I put in the th fix w/ no problems. Alot of people have done this so I think I would have heard if this mod screwed things up for a emissions test.

The TH fix is designed to stop the rpm's from hanging after shifting due to the PCM opening the IAC valve to help burn off the unburnt fuel. It increases performance in no way. The rush after 4500rpm is just the engine coming into it's main powerband.

A simple tail pipe test at idle no problem. Here NYS uses the dyno type test. I remove my TH plug when the car goes to get tested. It MAY pass with the plug installed, I never tried. As stated above, if the RPM's don't hang more unburned fuel comes out of the exhaust.

As mentioned before, the fix prevents the IAC from bleeding air to burn off excess HC in the transients, so the only way the TH fix would cause you to fail an emissions test is if they measure HC output during that period. AFAIK, no state performs this test. Why did Ford program it in? Who knows... maybe they have to adhere to stricter comprehensive HC emissions.

They do in NYS. Exhaust is checked over a variety of speeds which requre shifts. So if you dump a ton of HC at any point it could fail. I still don't think it likley would.
