As the topic states ther will be track day with Image motorsports on Monday Oct 14th at Shannonville. Cost is $140 in advance and $150 at the event. Open lapping all day (ie run untill you're done or you break, whatever comes first).

If anyone is interested pm me and I'll send you the rest of the details. This is the perfect time to put all of your mods to good use or just hang out. I'd really like to see somemore of you guys representing us there.

Road course. Open lapping, none of this 1/4 mile stuff.

I'll scan the flyer and e-mail it 2morrow

Count me in! I'll be there. Im only 45 minutes away. Im familiar with the track as i photograph the Parts Canada Superbike series there every year. unfortunately I cant afford to compete due to finiancial priorities , but I'd love to photograph the event. See you there.

Just a note of warning, taking part in open lapping events generally means that you're waiving your insurance - if you total your car you won't see a cent from your insurance company. Also make sure you have a good understanding of the rules for the lapping event - marshals? restricted passing? how many cars on the track at one time? If you want to track your car and not take that kind of a financial (or personal safety in the case of no marshals) risk then you're best off sticking to "schools" like those run by the BMW club and the SAAB club. I'm not even sure if the SVTOA events are officially considered schools. Best to check before you take to the track!

Here's the flyer.

Yes that is true that ins will not cover damage, if it occurs. Generally it is pretty safe out there. Don't let that discourage you.

I dont think any event that you are driving your own personal car in will be covered by your insurance unless you can obtain a special type of coverage (which I dont think even exists). The policies that we get (SVTOA) for our events covers liablity and I think some personal injury stuff. Insurance for track events is very difficult to get. That is why you sign your life away when you attend track events waivers and such. But they are still worth going and having some fun. If you are not stupid and follow the rules you can be safe and still have some fun.

Not entirely correct - if the event is set up as a "school" then your insurance is in effect. I don't know all the "ins" and "outs" of how an event can qualify as a school, but I do know that there has to be a classroom component and there must be an instructor in the car with you on the track. The BMW track weekends are certainly set up this way, and I've been told that the SAAB events are also (actually Porsche too, but they only allow "their own kind" to take part ) I have attended 3 BMW schools - of the approx. 100 cars that attend each weekend there is generally one person who does enough damage to warrant a claim. And the conventional wisdom is that no one has ever had a claim refused (of course expect your insurance to go through the roof after a claim!!!). I was always a little wary of this claim, but last year one of my local enthsiast friends had a sway bar bracket fail that sent him into the guardrail with enough ensuing damage to warrant a write off on the car - and indeed his insurance paid up knowing full well where he was and what he was doing. This wasn't meant to be attack on any particular club's track events, just a bit of info that some might appreciate knowing in advance.

P.S. my experience at the BMW schools has been a very very positive one - I came away with a much higher appreciation for the skill required in making a car go around a road track like Mosport quickly, consistently, and smoothley. And with controlled passing (and assuming that you as a participant have a healthy respect for the track) I see the biggest danger being due to something breaking on your car.

Eric
