The sensor likes for the level to be *slightly* above the max level. Just fill it up a bit and it should be fine.

I got my coolant flushed and filled two weeks ago and it is about 3/4" above max. I still get the coolant on light when I turn on the car. I also get the fuel light too, regardless of whether it is full or empty.

The only thing that helps is to keep the level about 1/2" above the max line. There is a FAQ about this as well as many, many, many, many, many threads. It may be the most commonly asked question about Contours.

It totally might not have anything to do with it, but mine low coolant light started to come on when I was full on coolant about a month before my water pump went. Just a heads up.

Demon is right. In adition to the fact that the 'tour likes to have the coolant above the 'max' line, there is an optical sensor that can go bad. THe way I understand it is that if you collant gets a bit gunky, or a film developers on the inside of the while plastic coolant resivior, the coolant light can also be tripped. A good cleaning of the resivoir might also solve some fo the problems.

The coolant sensor also measure the SPECIFIC GRAVITY of your coolant mixture. If there is too much water, the light will come on also.
I would try to empty the reservoir, and then refill it with 100% antifreeze, and drive around for a day or two, and see if the light goes out.
