I have 98 SVT with 44k miles. I am noticing a slight hesitation under light throttle. I just changed my plugs but that did not help. I will change the fuel filter soon. Additionally, I have experienced fuel starvation during high speed, long right-turning on/off ramps when I am low on fuel. I had a similiar fuel starvation problem in my 89 Ford Probe GT and it turned out to be a gunked up fuel filter intake sock - I cleaned it and cleaned out the bottom of my fuel tank and that fixed my Probe. I do not know if my two problems are related. (When I say my "two problems", I am referring to my SVT's symptoms, not my old Probe or my personal issues.) Any advice? Thanks - Dave

Your fuel pump is going out. If your filter doesn't help, then that is definately what it is. Mine just went out. I have a 00'SE sport w/ 49k miles on it and it cost me $266 for a stock unit. You have to buy the sender unit and pump if you get it from Ford, unless you feel like custom fitting an aftermarket (Carter) pump. Oh yeh, and be ready to return from a 9 hour trip to hell a new man!!! Good Luck! Ford is great and sucks all at the same time!

Wouldn't a bad fuel pump manifest itself under heavy throttle and high rpm? I only have a problem under light throttle. I realize that most of you don't ever use "light throttle", but any advice would be appreciated. Can anyone tell me what and where the fuel regulator is?

Thanks - Dave

Does it seem to get worse/better depending on the amount of fuel in the tank?

I have not noticed any correlation with the hesitation and fuel level, or anything else for that matter. I will keep monitoring the situation this week and hopefully I can replace the fuel filter next weekend.

Most tours with 35+k miles will or have experience the exact same problem and it is usually the fuel pump. The key is hesitation when turning corners. If there is no corrulation yet with fuel level, there soon will be as the pumps performance deteriorates.

Might want to change the fuel filter and clean up the TB and EGR passages just to rule them out as a cause. Are you running the TH fix plug? Try pulling it out and see if it makes a difference. Also verify the MAF and air filter are clean.

Hmmm....

I have had a hesitation problem with my '00 SE since I bought it used three weeks ago(49K miles). The problem usually occurs under heavy throttle and when i have a half a tank or less of gas. It has been not been acting up as much since that intial tank of gas (filled by the dealer), but when I go in for my "free" service next week, I can bitch because I had complained about this before I bought the car. The hard part was it was masked by that damn AC compressor clutch kicking in at first....but since I have experienced the problem at freeway speeds (slowed down to 30 before it cleared) as well, they BETTER fix it.

Beowulf,

I have exactly the same problem on my 00 Contour @ 29K miles when the tank is 1/2 full. Let me know if it turns out to be the fuel filter or the $250 pump.

Thanks
